MET GALA, WHO? : THIS Is The More Fashionable Festival

Throughout the summer I see many fashionable festival-goers photographed by large publications but their fashion choices leave me soooo unimpressed. That all changed when I came across a magical event a few years ago known as AfroPunk. Music and fashion are such big parts of Black culture and our influence is seen worldwide. The global impact of Black culture is major and AfroPunk always brings out the freshest talent. The festival itself has even gone international over the years which shows the need for more diversity amongst the underground festival scene. It differs from your average hipster, trend-driven festival (you know, like *ahem* Coachella!) and instead brings out loads of Afrocentric charm!

This year packed an impressive lineup including artists like Solange, SZA and Macy Gray, all of whom have their own eclectic styles. While there are plenty of festivals that have great line-ups like AFroPunk, style-wise AfroPunk is UNMATCHED. I will go even further and say it's the most fashionable festival to date. Yes, I said it! The Black community is extremely creative and is constantly reinventing what style is. Let's be honest, we dictate what style is. AfroPunk serves as a safe space to celebrate us and the many parts of our identity. Attendees serve up the best #blackgirlmagic and #blackboyjoy our community has to offer all in one place. Although I wasn't in attendance, I've rounded up some of my favorite looks! Let me know which ones you're feeling in the comments below!
